When this mom reached out to me over the winter asking for a newborn photo session, this was not what we had in mind. We may have expected to have a cosy in home session, but instead we got a cozy outdoor newborn photo session where their 3 year old got to explore a park and find a lot of sticks :).
If you had a baby during the pandemic and are sad that you missed out on newborn photos, I want to let you know that we can still capture this special time for your family with an outdoor newborn photo session. Having a baby during a pandemic is going to be part of your family’s history, so let’s make sure you document it. Luckily the weather is warm right now, so it is perfect for an outdoor baby photo sessions. The great thing about lifestyle in home sessions is that they can be done at any age, hopefully we can get you those in home photos down the line, but for now let’s get outside and cuddle that new family member for some photos!
I wanted to answer some common questions for you about outdoor “newborn” photo sessions. I put this in quotes because your baby doesn’t have to be a newborn, we can capture great memories for your family no matter the age of your baby. So if you had your little one at the beginning of March, don’t worry we can still do a session!
How will you get sibling photos during an outdoor newborn photo session?
I will have you bring a blanket. We will use this blanket in place of the typical master bed photos. For families that are comfortable having older siblings hold the baby, they can do this on the blanket. If the older sibling is not able to hold the baby, we will place the baby on the blanket and have the older sibling sit behind or next to the baby.
How will the outdoor photo session be different than an indoor session?
We won’t be in the comfort of your own home, so I wont be able to photograph the details of your nursery. These sessions won’t occur mid morning like my typical newborn session do, but will be either early morning or in the evening. These times are best for light, but also to avoid crowds right now. I won’t be getting close and getting any photographs from above.
How will the photo session be the same as an in home session?
I will capture the love that your family has, while you cuddle your new baby. I will get photos of the whole family and combinations like mom with baby, dad with baby, and sibling photos. It will be a fun experience that you will be able to look back on and remember during this strange time in all of our lives.
