From Maternity to Newborn: Capturing a Family’s Beautiful Journey

There’s something truly special about being invited to document a family’s journey over the years. It’s an honor to witness and preserve the moments that shape their lives. This family’s story began with a 2020 Needham maternity photo session, where I first met them—including their lovable Bernedoodle, who instantly stole my heart. Fast forward to their recent maternity and newborn photos sessions, and it felt less like work and more like catching up with dear friends.

A Summer to Remember

Our Needham maternity photo session together was nothing short of magical. The sun cast a golden glow over the open field, creating the perfect backdrop for celebrating their growing family. Their Bernedoodle, a gentle giant with a playful spirit, was a star in her own right, posing proudly alongside her humans. She added so much warmth and personality to the photos, truly making the session unforgettable.

Welcoming Baby Sister

When their baby girl arrived, I had the privilege of photographing my first in-home session with them. Walking into their home, I was greeted by big brother’s excitement. He couldn’t wait to show me his favorite spots around the house and introduce me to his new baby sister. His energy and pride as a big brother were infectious, and it made for some of the sweetest moments to capture.  He of course also got to show me how he jumps on his parent’s bed.  These were some of my favorite of him.  I can still hear his laughter as he jumped up and down.

As we moved through the session, Mom and I found ourselves bonding once again over our mutual love of dogs. Their Bernedoodle, now a little older, remained an integral part of their family story. Knowing how much their dog means to them, I made it a priority to include her in as many photos as possible. Whether she was lying protectively near the baby or being showered with affection by her family, her presence added depth and heart to the images.

What I love most about working with returning clients is the sense of connection and familiarity that grows with each session. These moments become more than just photos; they’re a record of love, growth, and the relationships that matter most. For this family, their Bernedoodle is not just a pet but a cherished member of the family, making these images even more meaningful as time goes on.
