Why it’s ok to wait

It is not too late to schedule your MetroWest Boston “newborn” photo session. I put “newborn” in quotes because it’s ok to wait a few weeks and even months to do a newborn photo session. There is no best time to do newborn photos for lifestyle sessions.  Although there is something very raw and beautiful about photographing a new baby, there are some things that I love about waiting.  So… if you had a baby this winter, but because of covid didn’t schedule a newborn session, it’s not too late to schedule an outdoor session for spring/summer.

MetroWest Boston Lifestyle Newborn Photo session

My style is considered lifestyle photography. This means that although I will prompt and guide you through the session, I am not posing baby.  There isn’t the pressure to have the session within the first 15 days because I am not posing your baby.  I will capture your family cuddling and loving your new member. We will take photos of the baby alone laying on a blanket or for in home sessions on a bed or in a crib.  I will photograph your family as you are and that can be with a brand new baby or a few months old baby.

Adjustment to new baby

Bringing a new baby into a family is a big adjustment, especially when there are older siblings involved.  I find that families that choose to wait a few weeks/months for their session have found their new rhythm.  The older siblings know what their role is with the baby and love to show off how they are a big helper.

Personality

When you wait a few weeks/months for photos your baby develops a little personality. You will be less likely to get sleeping photos but, waiting means that baby is more likely to be awake and interacting with your family. I love capturing some of those first smiles 🙂

Relaxed Newborn photo session

Going along with having adjusted to the new baby, I find that families that wait for their session tend to be more relaxed.  They are still very sleep deprived, but their bodies have adjusted to the lack of sleep.  Families aren’t adding in being camera ready to the list of many stressful things in the first week or two of bringing home a new baby.

Some families want to photograph their new baby within two weeks of being home and others want to wait a few months.  There is no right answer for when to schedule a photo session.  I want to make sure families know that if they didn’t schedule photos right away that you have not missed your window.  Documenting a family is beautiful and special at any stage.
