Those first few weeks with a new baby are filled with so many little moments worth remembering. The days can feel like a blur of feedings, snuggles, diaper changes, and figuring out life with a tiny new person. But those ordinary moments are often the ones families want to remember most.
This in-home newborn photo session in Natick, MA, was a perfect example of why I love lifestyle newborn photography. It was relaxed, personal, and full of little details that made this family’s story uniquely theirs.
A Nursery Full of Art and Personality
One of my favorite parts of photographing families at home is seeing the spaces they’ve created for their little ones. This mom loves art, and the nursery walls were filled with beautiful pieces that gave the room so much warmth and personality.
I love incorporating details like these into newborn sessions. Your home doesn’t need to be perfectly styled or look like something out of a magazine. The artwork you love, the nursery you’ve been preparing for months, and the cozy spots where you spend time with your baby all help tell the story of this season of life.
Years from now, these photos won’t just remind you what your newborn looked like. They’ll bring you back to the home where you first brought your baby, the room where you spent countless hours together, and all the little details that made those early days yours.
Including the Family Dog in Newborn Photos
Of course, this family’s sweet rescue pup made sure to be part of the action! He followed us from room to room throughout the session, happily finding opportunities to sneak into photos.
And honestly, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Pets are such an important part of the family, and I love including them in newborn photography whenever possible. Sometimes they settle in for a cozy nap nearby, sometimes they’re curious about every little thing the baby does, and sometimes they decide that every photo needs to include them.
There’s no need for your dog to sit perfectly still or behave like a trained model. We’ll work with their personality, give them time to get comfortable, and let them be part of the experience in a way that feels natural.
These photos are about your whole family, furry members included!
Relaxed, Natural Newborn Photography at Home
My approach to newborn photography is simple. I want you to feel comfortable, enjoy your baby, and not worry about getting everything just right.
I photograph newborns in a natural, lifestyle style, focusing on connection, snuggles, and the little interactions that happen between parents, babies, and siblings. There are no elaborate props or complicated poses. Your baby gets to be a baby, and we follow their lead throughout the session.
We might photograph everyone together on the bed, capture quiet moments in the nursery, or move into the living room for some cuddles on the couch. I’ll look for the best available light and use the spaces in your home that work well for photos.
And if your baby needs to eat, be changed, or simply have a little time to settle, that’s completely fine. Newborns run the show, and we work around them.
You don’t need a spotless house, a perfectly sleeping baby, or a strict schedule. You just need to show up as you are.
Remembering the Beautiful, Messy Early Days
It’s easy to think you’ll remember every little detail about bringing your baby home. The way they curled up against your chest, their tiny fingers wrapped around yours, or the way your dog seemed to know that something important had changed.
But those early days can also be exhausting. You’re adjusting to a new routine, recovering from birth, and learning your baby’s cues. Some days feel incredibly sweet, while others feel like a complete blur.
That’s one of the reasons I believe in documenting this season just as it is. Your home doesn’t have to be perfect, and your family doesn’t have to look a certain way. The goal is to capture the connections, details, and moments that make this chapter yours.
Because someday, you’ll look back at these photos and remember not just how tiny your baby was, but what life felt like when they were brand new.
