Recently, I had the privelage of photographing a wonderful couple during their maternity and newborn sessions.

I love photographing maternity photo sessions. It’s a time when families are brimming with anticipation, and capturing that excitement is a joy. On the day of the session, the weather had other plans. I checked the weather repot probably 100 times that day and it looked like it would be clear but as we pulled up to the parking lot it was clear that my weather apps had steared me wrong.  But instead of rescheduling, we decided to embrace the elements.

Armed with clear umbrellas, we ventured out into the soft drizzle. The rain created a magical atmosphere, with everything glistening and the colors popping against the gray sky. I love how a little rain can transform a scene into something uniquely beautiful.

The rain didn’t dampen their spirits; instead, it added a layer of intimacy to the session. We captured candid moments of them under the umbrella, sharing sweet glances, and enjoying each other’s company despite the weather. These images turned out to be some of my favorites, showcasing the love and joy they felt as they prepared to welcome their little one.

Fast forward a few weeks, and it was time for the newborn session. Walking into their home was like stepping into a beautifully decorated haven. The nursery was a labor of love, filled with soft colors, thoughtful decor, and sweet little touches that reflected the couple’s personality. It was clear that this was a space filled with love and anticipation for their new arrival.

As we settled in for the session, it felt like catching up with friends rather than a formal photography shoot. The couple was so relaxed and comfortable, and it was heartwarming to see them as new parents. We captured the tender moments of them cradling their newborn, those precious little yawns, and the overwhelming love that filled the room.

The nursery provided the perfect backdrop, with its soft lighting and cozy details. It was wonderful to document the little nuances of their new life together—the tiny fingers wrapped around theirs, the serene moments of quiet, and the playful interactions that will undoubtedly become cherished memories as their family grows.

Photographing maternity and newborn sessions is always an honor. It’s a beautiful journey filled with anticipation, joy, and love. Each session feels like a celebration, and I love how they create a narrative of a family’s growth. The maternity session is an opportunity to capture the excitement of expecting parents, while the newborn session is about embracing those tender early days. Both are filled with emotion, and I’m grateful to be the one to capture these moments.
