One of Rachele of Obstacle Fitness’s favorite mantras is “there is no bad weather, just poor clothing choices.”  So when it was sprinkling out, I put on my boots and rain jacket, grabbed my clear umbrella, and we went for it!

What brought you to opening Obstacle Fitness in Natick Massachusetts?

I always knew I wanted to start my own business, but I had never had my “ah-ha” moment. That moment finally came in June 2018 when I went to an obstacle course gym. I have been running obstacle course races since the early 2000s (when they were called Mud Runs). Going to that gym ignited the spark that ultimately led to the launch of Obstacle Fitness.

When I launched Obstacle Fitness in July 2019, the objective was to provide outside-the-box teambuilding and activities for corporate offsites and parties. I wanted to share my love of that sport with others in an accessible and fun way. When COVID hit, I pivoted to kids because so much was shut down, but kids still needed to be outside and interacting with each other.

What is something that makes Obstacle Fitness special?

I’m a strong believer in people spending time outside. So while we can go to an inside space if you have one, I strongly encourage people to give an outside party a chance. Does the weather provide an element of unpredictability? Yes, but that’s part of the fun. One of my favorite mantras is, “there is no bad weather just poor clothing choices”. I’ve done parties in mud, snow and rain. Kids don’t care about the weather.

 

What might people not know about you or your business that you would want them to know?

We don’t just do birthday parties! Here are some other programs we run:
1. Activity programs for daycare centers, preschools and elementary schools.
2. Teambuilding programs and offsites for companies and organizations.
3. Neighborhood block parties and competitions.
4. Parties for adults, such as milestone birthdays, career achievements or even divorce parties.

What is something you love about Natick or your favorite spot in Natick?

I have loved seeing the evolution of Natick Center as new cafes and stores have come in, whether it’s Sweetwater or Uni-T. I can’t pick just one!
