Get in the Frame: Why You Deserve to Be in the Story, Too

Family Photo Sessions

This family photo session was full of everything I love most about photographing families—giggles, flower picking, bare feet in the grass, and the kind of joy that’s contagious. We wandered through Wellesley College bursting with blooms while the little ones explored, played, and paused occasionally to offer a flower or wrap their arms around Mom.

At one point, while the kids were busy collecting petals, Mom and I chatted. She mentioned that she makes a point to book professional photos every year—and not just for the kids. She does it because she wants to be in them.

And wow, I felt that.

As someone who’s often behind the camera (and, before that, a mom juggling all the daily things), I know how easy it is to disappear from the visual story of your own family. You’re the one taking the photos, organizing the outfits, packing the snacks, and making sure everyone else is camera-ready. And too often, you’re the one left out of the frame.

But here’s the truth:
You deserve to be in the photos, too.

Not just for you—but for your kids. Years from now, they’ll look back at these moments and want to see the way you looked at them, the way they fit just right in your arms, the way your face lit up when they laughed. These little pieces of love and connection matter.

Photos are more than pretty pictures—they’re proof of how it felt.
They’re part of your family’s story.
And you are a big part of that story.

So here’s your reminder, mama:
Get in the frame. Be in the story. đź’›

You’ll never regret it—and your kids will thank you for it someday.
