When I got home from the session and my husband asked how it went, I told him it was a photographer’s dream!  So what made it a dream?  Here are a few things that all added up to a magical session.

Ready to play during their family photo session

This family was ready to play and embrace being together during the session.  They followed my prompts and added in their own natural interactions.  I love that they were both silly and affectionate.

Activity-based photo session

We started out the session with getting a few more posed photos and then we went right into playing and doing activities.  Mom had planned to let the girls pick flowers from their garden.  They chased their chickens around the yard and climbed trees.  I added in a few of my family session prompts/games like red light green light, simon says, and dancing together.  We were able to capture some authentic moments during these activities.

Clothing choices

They followed my advice on clothing choices.  Choosing light-colored clothes that coordinate makes the photos more light, airy, and magical.

Light and Location

We did the session a little over an hour before sunset which gave us beautiful golden light.  Their yard is beautiful!  I have been eyeing their yard since this mom and I became friends on instagram.  I was so excited when she reached out about photos.  We also lucked out with their tree being in bloom.

All of these things added up to a beautiful photographer’s dream session.
