One of my favorite things being a MetroWest Boston newborn photographer is photographing families through multiple milestones. When I get to capture both maternity and newborn sessions, it creates such a different experience for everyone involved.
By the time the newborn session arrives, we already know each other. Parents know what to expect, siblings recognize me, and the whole session naturally feels calmer and more relaxed. Instead of meeting someone new during an already emotional and sleep deprived time, families get to welcome a familiar face into their home.
This sweet family chose to document both moments, and it made such a difference when I came back to photograph their newborn session.
They also decided to wait a little longer than the typical newborn window. Their baby was almost two months old when we photographed him. Waiting gave them time to settle into life with their new little one and find their rhythm as a family of four. By the time I arrived, everyone felt comfortable, and the morning had such a calm, joyful energy.
Big brother was especially excited. He could not wait to show off his new baby brother and proudly held him whenever he had the chance. Watching siblings step into their new role is always one of my favorite parts of a newborn session. Those moments are full of pride, curiosity, and so much love.
Because we had already spent time together during their maternity session, the newborn session felt easy. We were able to focus on the connection between them instead of worrying about posing or rushing through moments. The result is always photographs that feel natural and full of emotion.
That is one of the biggest benefits of booking both maternity and newborn sessions. The experience becomes smoother for the whole family, and the photos truly reflect what life feels like during this season.
From the quiet anticipation before baby arrives to the beautiful chaos of life with a newborn, these sessions tell the full story of welcoming a new little one.
And getting to document that journey from bump to baby is always such an honor.
If you are thinking about maternity or newborn photos, planning both sessions together can make the entire experience feel more relaxed and meaningful for your family.
