I first met this sweet family during their maternity photo session, and it was such a joy to reconnect for their newborn photos. Getting to photograph a family at different stages of their journey is one of the most meaningful parts of my work. It always feels like catching up with old friends—there’s a level of comfort and trust already built in, which makes everything flow so naturally.
That comfort really came through during this newborn session. Their little lady was so calm and content, which made for a smooth and relaxed morning. We moved through the session at her pace, pausing here and there to chat, admire her tiny features, and soak in the moment. These slower, quieter moments are my favorite—they give space for real connection and authenticity to shine through in the photos.
Mom had mentioned she was hoping for a few outdoor images, and I always try to make this happen when the lighting allows. That said, the ideal time for indoor photos doesn’t always line up with the best light outdoors. When I arrive at a session, I always take a few minutes to scout the yard and see what the light is doing. For outdoor newborn photos, I’m looking for soft, even shade—harsh mid-morning sun doesn’t quite match the calm, gentle vibe I’m going for.
Luckily, the light was just right on this particular morning, and we were able to sneak outside for a few peaceful moments in the yard. The combination of cozy indoor snuggles and dreamy outdoor portraits made for a truly beautiful gallery.
