I do photograph cake smashes!  Like all my other photography, my cake smashes are done in a very natural way.  If you are looking for an elaborate set up with props, then I would not be a good fit.  If you want photos of your little one on a blanket or in a highchair exploring cake, then I am your girl!

The first birthday is a big milestone for families.  I start my first birthday sessions with family photos.  This day is as much a celebration for the whole family as it is for your little one.  I want you to have memories of the whole family to look back on.  I will also get a few photos of just the birthday boy or girl before we bring in the cake. We will have a super simple setup for your cake smash with a blanket and cake.  I will photograph your little one exploring the cake.

Sometimes one year olds aren’t into cake so they may need a little encouragement.  I recommend  bringing one of their favorite snacks so we can place it in the cake on the side that won’t be seen by the camera.  This usually lets us get photos of them at least touching the cake. Would it surprise you to know that most of the one year olds I have photographed don’t just dig into the cake?  It is usually a new experience for them and they are often weary of the cake.  If you are hoping for them to dive in, I would suggest introducing them to cake before the session. You can get mini cupcakes and start giving it to them in the week leading up to the session.  Give them lots of praise and act super excited any time they touch or eat the cake.

If they dive into the cake or not we will capture adorable first birthday photos for you to look back on this special milestone in your family’s life.
