How to prepare for your Metro West Boston family photo session

Family Photo Sessions

My hope is that your Family Photo session is a stress free experience.  I want to capture natural moments of your family interacting with each other.  I will prompt and guide you throughout the session. Here are a few things you can do to prepare for your photo session to set your family up for success:

1. Fill out your photo session questionnaire

You will receive a questionnaire before the session to help me get to know your family.  My goal is to capture your family’s connection.  I like to come up with a few activities to do during the session to evoke natural interactions. These activities can range from cuddling to playing red light green light. Your questionnaire helps me get to know your family and come up with ideas for the session.

2. Plan your family outfits

I have tips for what to wear here. The most important things to remember are to coordinate your family photo session outfits and make sure everyone feels comfortable in what they are wearing.

3.  Let you kids know what to expect at the photo session

Let your kids know that we will be taking family photos.  There will be some time spent taking posed type photos and some time to play.  The better they are listening, the more time to play we will have!  Tell them that it will be fun!  The more excited you are about the session, the more excited your kids will be.

4.  Plan something fun for afterwards or a reward they can have after the family photos

As fun as I try to make the sessions,  having a reward to look forward helps keep kids engaged.  Having something to look forward to after the session can be a great motivator if your kids aren’t super excited about photos.

5.  Relax and have fun!

I have three girls myself, so I also understand that we need to go with the flow depending on how the children are taking to the photo session.  My goal is to capture natural moments, so don’t worry about things being “perfect.”  I think the best photos are perfectly imperfect.  This is a time to have fun with your family and let me capture your family’s unique connection.
